Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary hosts a wide variety of programs for diverse audiences: programs for families, special events, and parent and child programs.

Duck Day

Sunday, November 30th, Noon to 3 p.m.

 

Some dabble, some dive, but they're all ducks. We'll explore

the amazing adaptations ducks have for living on the lake and discover who's who in the duck world.


 

Oh Deer

Sunday, January 25th, Noon to 3 p.m.

 

Deer, deer everywhere! Love them or hate them, they're a native part of our environment and they are here to stay. Play deer games, deer bingo, make deer crafts and learn more about these hoofed invaders!


Who Gives a Hoot

Sunday, February 22nd, Noon to 3 p.m.

 

Who glides silently, can turn their head almost completely around and can cough-up a wicked hairball - who-who who? Drop in anytime as we explore wonderful, world of owls through games, stories, crafts and hands-on exploration. Participate in the owl pellet dissection activity for $5.

Fossil Fair

Saturday and Sunday, March 28th and 29th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Who lived here millions of years ago? Dinosaurs, trilobites, ammonites, enormous clams and sharks lived in the ancient tropical coarl seas and palm tree forests that covered Vancouver Island. Paleontologists will share their personal fossil discoveries including many from this past year. Bring your family and your own fossils for identification. Kids can follow a scavenger hunt, make fossil and dinosaur rubbings, dig for fossils in a sandbox and take a fossil home as a treasure.


Annual Native Plant Sale

Saturday and Sunday, April 25th and 26th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Over 4,000 plants and over a hundred species available for purchase at our Annual Native Plant Sale.

Bee Day

Sunday, May 31st, Noon - 3 p.m.

 

A honey of a program fit for the royalty of the insect world. What’s the buzz about bees – are they really good dancers? Bee songs, bee crafts and some bee spit to taste. Join us and you’ll bee amazed, bee enchanted and bee happy. Bee there or bee square.


Going Batty

Sunday, June 28th, Noon - 3 p.m.

 

Join us as we celebrate our best source of natural mosquito control – Bats!  Explore their weird and wonderful world and find out how to encourage bats to visit your neighbourhood.
